Old Library Theatre wishes to thank all playwrights who submitted for our upcoming 5th Annual One Act Play Festival. This year, our festival has already broken records: We received a total of 183 submissions – our largest since the festival began five years ago.

As you can imagine, this put our reading committee in the position of needing to make some very tough selections between many, many excellent pieces of original theater. We are happy to announce the line-up for this year’s festival, performing January 22-24, 2016:

“And Twice on Sunday” – Written by Brad Sytsma (Caledonia, MI). Directed by Bill Kaufman.
“Femme Noir” – Written by Allie Costa (Los Angeles, CA). Directed by Toni Braun.
“How It Will Be” – Written by Craig M. Tiede (Jersey City, NJ). Directed by Matthew Haines.
“Leading Lady” – Written by Steven Korbar (Torrance, CA). Directed by Anthony Crouchelli.
“Me and My Shadow” – Written by Rich Orloff (New York, NY). Directed by Will A. Sandoval.
“Off Grid” – Written by Brendan Joel Bartlett (Jersey City, NJ). Directed by Megan Milko.

Calling all playwrights!

Fair Lawn Recreation Department’s resident theatre company Old Library Theatre (OLT) invites submissions for its 5th Annual One Act Play Festival. Nominated for the NJACT Perry Award for Best Production of an Original Play four years running, this festival showcases original one act plays on our main stage!

This year’s festival will kick off our 49th season with three performances January 22-24, 2016. Auditions will be held in November 2015.

Submission criteria is as follows:

All plays must be complete, one act works, running 15-30 minutes, with six or fewer characters.
No musicals, please.
Our season’s theme is “Ambition,” so we are looking for one act plays that speak to this theme in some way.
Plays will be mounted with no budget, though they will be fully staged with necessary sound and lighting.

Please e-mail submissions or questions to by October 20, 2015. Playwrights who did not have their plays produced in this year’s festival will receive priority in selection.

All performances take place at George Frey Center for Performing Arts at 10-10 20th Street in Fair Lawn, NJ. Performance times are Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm, and Sundays at 2pm.

Old Library Theatre (OLT), Fair Lawn Recreation Department’s resident theatre company, is a community theatre organization, located in Bergen County, NJ, committed to producing quality productions at an affordable price. Old Library Theatre was started in 1967 in Fair Lawn by a handful of dreamers who wanted to make the joy of theatre performance available to everyone. The original theatre was on River Road, and several years ago moved to the George Frey Center for Performing Arts—a state-of-the-art 170-seat theater—in the Fair Lawn Community Center.
